First Steps is a program for all Medicaid-eligible
pregnant women. Nurses, counselors, dietitians,
and health educators work as a team to provide
support and education for a healthy pregnancy
and parenting.
A few of the services offered are:
• Medical and dental care referrals
• Childbirth preparation
• Community resource information, such as housing and job training
• Counseling to help with the emotional changes of pregnancy
• After the baby’s birth, coaching to help prepare for parenting
