CARDIAC SUPPORT GROUP
A nurse will review aerobic and resistance exercise activities as they relate to fitness. Frequency, intensity, time, and types of exercises will be examined. Cardiac Support group meets at noon for an hour the first Wednesday of each month. Bring a “heart healthy” dish and recipe to share. Everyone is welcome.

This program identifies the biological and psychological triggers that stimulate or reduce your appetite. Learn about how certain foods, alone or in combination, can sabotage your hard work. Also included, we talk about meal planning, family and social dynamics, and habits you can start to help achieve your goals.

LIPID PANEL
You may be aware of your cholesterol numbers, but do you understand what they mean to your health and your life? This class provides an interpretation of your lipid/cholesterol panel, as well as lifestyle modification information to help improve your numbers. You’ll understand your total cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL/LDL ratio in a whole new way.

RISK FACTORS - PREVENTING A HEART ATTACK
Are you at risk? This class provides an overview of risk and management techniques to enhance your cardiac health. It looks at preventable cardiac risk factors we can modify, such as obesity, lifestyle, blood pressure, cholesterol, cigarette smoking, as well as and psychosocial factors (anger/hostility, depression, isolation, and stress).

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
We all know that obesity and a sedentary lifestyle is fast becoming an epidemic of unhealthy, illness-ridden choices and consequences that contribute to a shortened, diseased life. Come discuss ways to work towards a healthy weight and an active life.

The DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) Diet is a proven, healthy eating plan to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Highlights of this plan will be reviewed as one of the many plans available to support lifestyle changes that can improve your heart health.
Friday, December 11 - EATING FOR LIFE
Based on Bill Phillip’s “Eating for Life” plan, this class helps you outline a plan for feeling healthy, energetic and happy with your food choices. Starting with the story of Bill’s own weight loss, he explains simply and clearly his own alternative eating plan, which involves six small meals a day.
Wednesday, December 16 - BLOOD PRESSURE CONTROL
Explore how diet, physical inactivity, sleeplessness, stress and aging influence blood pressure. These risk factors can contribute to high blood pressure, otherwise known as the "silent killer". Find out how to control your risk factors in order to prevent heart attack and stroke.
Friday, December 18 - LABEL READING
Participants receive an easy-to-understand explanation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s suggestions for food selection, serving sizes, and nutrition facts. The class will practice reading labels as they relate to processed and packaged foods.
Wednesday, December Dec. 23 - HOW YOUR HEART WORKS
The human heart is a complex and interesting organ that has a huge effect on your entire health and well-being. Join us in looking at the mysteries of the heart and have your questions answered by a cardiac rehabilitation nurse who can explain how you can care for this wondrous organ in your body.
Monday, December 28 - EXERCISE FOR LIFE
Learn why we should remain physically active and incorporate exercise into our lives. Even increasing incidental activity improves our quality of life. Exercise allows the body and mind to be active, motivated, and stress free. Exercise to live…..live to exercise!

Sleep is one key to a healthy and productive life. This class highlights the role sleep plays in the maintenance and repair of the physical body, as well as the functioning of the brain.
